Joseph A. Steingraeber started his career in the 1930s working with the Civilian Conservation Corps.   He started in the upper peninsula of Michigan near the Seaney National Wildlife Refuge and later worked on the Coon Creek Watershed Project in Vernon County, Wisconsin as a Soil Conservation Service employee.   Joe was a Soil Scientist who spent much of his career in Waukesha, WI, mapping the soils of southeastern Wisconsin.   Pictured is Joe preparing for a day in the field as a Soil Scientist Trainee near Springfield, MO in 1938.
